Wow it is late my time, hence calling myself a night Hubber...probably not when I do my best work, but definitely when I get the most peace and quiet to get the work done. Where do I even begin?
Okay, so if you haven't pinned your hubs; do it! If you are an ex-Squid, used to be a member of Squidoo, and have pinned your articles, go through and fix all the links. It should automatically redirect you to HubPages, but I noticed some of mine weren't and eventually when Squidoo is completely gone there could be a problem redirecting. The other thing is that you can earn money by referring people who sign up on HubPages - you get 10% of what they earn from HubPages earnings (not from the writer). How do you do it? This is my referral link: http://hubpages.com/_3tb4psx2h1v0v/user/new/ - once you are signed up, go to My Account > Earnings > Referral Trackers. There you will find your referral code. Replace my code, shown in bold in the link above, with yours and you are set! Pin your referral link as well! When you are creating or updating your hubs you will wonder why it is so important to add a summary to your hubs even though it doesn't even show up after you publish. Well, when you pin a hub, as long as you pic the first picture after your summary; the summary will show with the pin. I found some great stuff on the forums of HubPages. Spend some time there and click on profiles to follow those that you feel you learn from or whose writings interest you. I personally am also trying to find as many ex-Squids as I can. Following will not only increase your traffic, but hopefully well seasoned Hubbers can send you some pointers as well. (BEWARE: mass following can hurt your hub score and cause other issues, so only do a few follows at a time.)
LINKING SITES IS KEY! Link any and all sites that you are on to each other; Twitter, Pinterest, Google Plus blogs, if you have a Facebook page you feel comfortable linking...link it all, so you can get a lot of exposure. Also, make sure to use those sites to circulate your writing. There may be a more efficient way of doing this, but after pinning my hub, I post an article (usually my most recent writing) on twitter. Then, I share it on any pages that I can find on Facebook where the subject is relevant. Finally, I post it on my blog here. My newest hub is "Stuffed Animal Must-Haves"; how to keep stuffed animals looking great. Make sure to edit your profile, and add all of your pages to the links section of your HubPages profile. You can discover a lot by seeing who is pinning your articles or viewing them on Twitter, it will help you get a feel for what type of writing is working for you.
As for editing my articles: it has been a little crazy, but I think I finally have a system down. I mainly have been focusing on pages that I see are being viewed
frequently and subjects that are popular or relevant; such as
holiday articles, and go from there. First, I have been trying to go through and fix or update any links. Next, I have been updating my topics, so they are easier to find. Squidoo seemed to have limited topics, so I have been happy to find a lot more tops and subtopics on HubPages. Then, I change and delete some of the products I have featured. I also go through all the pictures and edit the picture source details, as that seems to have gotten all mixed up in the transfer. Finally, I try to go through and edit my content by making it clean and clear. HubPages is more about content than featuring products, which is great, but makes it difficult to change some of the articles because on Squidoo you earned more money if you were getting sales from your pages and thus tend to have more of your articles focused on that. I have deleted a couple of articles due to that.
I found out that you can't share the exact details of your earnings from HubPages, so I am guessing I will have some pocket change at the end of the month. lol I don't really do it for the money though, a little helps, but I really enjoy writing online. I hope that this has helped someone out there going through the same transition that I am. Sales are the Key!
I have a lot of catching up to do! My family went on vacation at the end of October and it seems I've been trying to catch up with each holiday since. Well, I only made $2 in November from Sept. and I was really discouraged. I started to get more involved with church things, play groups with my little boy, working out, holiday stuff, etc. and put Squidoo on the back burner. Then, I got paid for this month and remembered the sales I had made in Oct.
I realized that you can make money from anything someone buys on Amazon or ebay, as long they started purchasing from a link that you had on your article. Thus, it is important to have interesting and great products that people want to at least check out because they may not buy that item, but they could buy others that also bring in money for you.

This is why it is important to go through EVERY pay out! I did not go through last month's and I really should have. I don't think it is a big deal here, but what if the payment is really off? Anyway, as you can see, sales made up over half of what I made made for October!!!! This is the most I've made so far since starting with Squidoo! I wanted to get my butt going for December and had all these ideas for Christmas, but lost my gusto and so much came up that I just didn't pull it together. I am happy to say I made my second charity lens: Carved Christmas Gourds. I haven't written any other articles, but I did make some sales this month though! I am going to push forward for Valentine's and see where it leads me. It is a good idea to make lenses that are not Valentine's specific, but rather revolve around love or couples, so the lens won't be seasonal. Making Money - Tiers in Squidoo
I did a lot of searching on Squidoo and everyone seemed to explain the tier system in a way that was hard for me to really understand. Finally, I found a lens that outlined it in a simplified way: Tiers On Squidoo. Come to find out a teenage boy was the lensmaster of this article! I was blown away, he is such a great writer - better than some adults, and I took a look at some of his other lenses. It gave me hope and made me feel like I can reach my goals if this kid can write all these cool lenses, then there is nothing stopping me. Anyway, tier 4 are the lenses ranking above 85,000, like mentioned last time, and you are only earning pennies (if anything) on these lenses. Tier 3 is a lens rank of 85,00 to 10,001 and your earnings are right around 30 cents for these lenses. I like how he adds that, "it really doesn't seem like much, but if you have a lot of lenses it adds up." Tier 2, 10,000 to 2,001 and Tier 1, 2,000 and higher, seem practically impossible to reach, but if you do you are making anywhere between $7 to $50 per lens. He also goes on to talk about how sales are an important part of making money on your lenses (not included in the previous projected in earnings) and the lens rank obviously affects that, as more people are seeing your article. I believe I mentioned this before, but your lens is counted at the beginning of the month, then you get paid about two months later, so I'm thinking that means you have to make sure your ranking is the highest right at the end of the month to get that ranking to stay up through the 1st. My highest ranking article, thus far, has been Five Feel-Good Movie Favorites with a ranking in the mid 40,000 area. Your lens rank changes every day though, so there isn't any way of knowing if you will still have such a high ranking tomorrow, so I wonder if there is something I am missing? I started trying to find out how others felt about this and found a well written lens about how they should change the tiers, so more people get some of the profit. The article didn't say anything negative about Squidoo, in fact they have over hundreds of lenses, but pointed out that it is hard to make good money on there considering
how many people are now members, and so on. I agree, I think they should add more tiers to the system, so people have a greater chance of making a profit. We, the writers, are the reason that people do go on Squidoo after all. It will be interesting to see how everything goes and whether or not I make any money from this venture, but I do enjoy it and feel like the community that has been built is really great. I will stick with it and you can keep up with my journey here!CORRECTION: Perhaps I overlooked it in previous lenses, but I learned from reading this lens: How To Improve Your Lens Rank that the rank, as well as what you get paid for the lens, is based on the average rank it had for the month. I would venture to say that the month in which you create the lens would be the lowest pay out then, as it seems that all my lenses have started in Tier 4 and stayed there for at least a few days. I agree with this writer when she says that probably the best way of increases rank is by having good content - hopefully others agree that I have good work and enjoy the way I present the information. Finding Squidoo
For a long time now I've been trying to find something I can do from home that I enjoy, which will bring in a little extra money. For the first two years I was married I was the bread winner, making around $15 an hour. I quit because my husband had started a new job. At that point, I decided I wanted to be a homemaker. Shortly after relocating with my husband's work, we conceived and nine months later had a beautiful baby boy. I have reached a point in my life where I want to do something that is just me, something that makes me feel important and brings gratification. Squidoo allows me to do this and surprisingly has already become somewhat addictive. I love not only writing, but reading other lenses. You can interact with the articles and like them through Facebook, Twitter, Pin It using Pinterest, or even recommend it here on Google. It is the thing I do to get away from every day life. I usually work on it at night when there are no distractions and I am just left by myself to share my thoughts without any critiquing. It has also helped me to not snack as much at night because my attention is focused else where. I don't like to just throw out my opinions, what I really enjoy doing is helping others by sharing my experiences. I would be lying if I said I don't hope to make a little money while doing this as well, we shall see as time goes on. There are some amazing stories of those that have been making thousands of dollars a month, which are very inspiring and definitely add motivation.
